Burying Beetles

I came up with my own behavioral research on the burying behavior of several carrion beetle species in the New York deciduous forest (2011-2012). I also observed the mutualisms between phoretic mites and sexton beetles.

Goatfish

I devised and conducted research on the foraging behaviors of several coexisting goatfish species.  I did this at Lizard Island Research Station, a leading ocean conservation and research facility on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia (2012).

Tooth-Billed Bowerbirds

I devised and conducted inventive behavioral research on the elaborate courtship systems of bowerbirds in the Australian rainforest (2012).  I observed many bowers within various lek display areas.  I tracked the stealing behavior between different males and what kinds of ornamentations they used.

Scientific Research and Studies

Northeastern Songbirds

I came up with innovative behavioral research on the food coloration preferences of birds.  For this study, I incorporated themes of warning coloration, mimicry, and camouflage.  I tested birds' abilities to associate colors with different food rewards, and on various patterned backgrounds of my design. (2011 and 2014).

Maine Seabirds

I assisted with behavioral and observational studies of several seabird species in collaboration with the National Audubon Society (2016). This included conducting puffin burrow surveys, guillemot nest surveys, storm petrel burrow surveys, locating federally endangered roseate tern nests, recording behavioral data on puffins, re-sighting puffins, roseate terns, and arctic terns with identifiable band numbers, and helping bird-band Atlantic puffins, wild guillemots, and storm-petrels.
